The Ellery Queen Centenary Symposium, hosted by Ellery Queen's Mystery Magazine and Columbia University, was a resounding success.
Speakers Steven E. Steinbock, Patricia Caldwell, and Richard Dannay delighted the audience with presentations about "Manny and Danny: Two Boys from Brooklyn," the two-man writing team of cousins Frederic Dannay and Manfred B. Lee, whose pseudonym was Ellery Queen.

Panels included Ellery Queen: Sleuth of Many Faces, covering the novels and stories; and Queen of All Trades: Editor, Teacher, Critic, Scholar, about EQ's other roles. The nature of the men's collaboration, Fatal Fusion: Uniting Separate Talents, was addressed by Francis M. Nevins.
Later, speakers and attendees mingled at the pre-Edgar cocktail reception, where Columbia University's exhibit of Ellery Queen manuscripts and other literary 'artifacts' allowed a fascinating peek at the processes involved in writing for both authors and editors.
